Announcing Summer 2025 Community Moving Education Artists in Residence: James Grater and Kathleen Bindler

Visual artist Kathleen Bindler will guide CME participants in the creation of eight large-scale paintings—each 60 inches by 77 inches—that will serve as the sets for Letters to Our Fathers.

These collaborative works of art will visually anchor the performance, transforming the stage into a living, expressive canvas shaped by the young artists’ reflections and imagination.

As part of this summer’s original performance piece, Letters to Our Fathers, James Grater will compose a powerful and emotive sound score drawn directly from the voices and writings of CME participants.

His work will underscore the performance with an original sonic landscape that reflects the depth and complexity of the youth’s personal stories.

Together, James and Kathleen bring a transformative artistic vision to CME 2025, helping to elevate the voices of our youth through music, visual art, and performance. We are honored to have them join our mission of community-driven, arts-based education in Apalachicola.
